How the SATTB ranking system works including points allocation, ranking calculations, and updates.
The SATTB ranking system determines player standings and seeding:
**Ranking Categories:**
1. Junior Rankings (Under 18, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11)
2. Senior Rankings (Open, Veterans)
3. Provincial Rankings
4. National Rankings
**Points Allocation:**
Points awarded based on:
- Tournament category (National, Provincial, Regional, Club)
- Player's performance (Winner, Finalist, Semi-finalist, etc.)
- Opponent's ranking (bonus points for defeating higher-ranked players)
**Tournament Categories:**
- **National Events:** Maximum points available
- **Provincial Events:** 70% of national points
- **Regional Events:** 50% of national points
- **Club Events:** 30% of national points
**Ranking Calculation:**
- Best 6 tournament results in 12-month period
- Results weighted by tournament category
- Recent results weighted more heavily
- Bonus points for defeating players ranked higher
- Penalty for losses to much lower-ranked players
**Ranking Updates:**
- Rankings updated monthly
- New results added, old results removed
- Changes published on SATTB website
- Players can track progress online
**Seeding:**
- Top-ranked players seeded in tournaments
- Number of seeds depends on draw size
- Seeds placed to avoid meeting until later rounds
- Helps ensure fair competition
**Junior to Senior Transition:**
- Junior rankings separate from senior
- Players aged 18 can maintain both rankings
- Junior results don't transfer to senior ranking
- Fresh start in senior category
**Inactive Players:**
- No results in 12 months marked "inactive"
- Ranking preserved for 6 additional months
- After 18 months, removed from rankings
- Must re-establish ranking through competition
**Disputes:**
- Players can query ranking calculations
- Must submit inquiry within 14 days
- SATTB Ranking Officer reviews
- Corrections made if errors found
**National Team Selection:**
- Rankings used for national team selection
- Combined with selection trials
- International performance considered
- Coaches' recommendations included
